The Door
Go and open the door.
Maybe outside there’s a tree
or a wood,
a garden,
or a magic city.
Go and open the door.
Maybe a dog’s rummaging.
Maybe you’ll see a face,
or an eye,
or a picture
of a picture.
Go and open the door.
If there’s a fog
it will clear.
Go and open the door.
Even if there’s only
the darkness ticking,
even if there’s only
the hollow wind,
even if
nothing
is there,
Go and open the door.
At least
there’ll be
a draught.
Miroslav Holub
This is another poem introduced by university. And the teaching idea I've taken straight from a task we were set by our lecturers. We were asked to choose between two poems and write our own using the same structure as a basis and keeping the elements in bold type. I came up with my own ideas and here's my poem in the style of Miroslav Holub's 'The Door' :
"Go and open the door
maybe outside there's a river
or the sea
a lake
or the babbling of a brook
Go and open the door
maybe the moon is glowing
you may just see the man hiding
or a face
or the glittering of the stars
shimmering
shimmering.
Go and open the door
what can you see?
what can you hear?
Go and open the door
Even if the breeze sweeps through
even if there's only you
even if there's no one there
Go and open the door
at least there'll be wind rippling in your hair."
By Sarah Lynham
This is just my attempt and my first attempt at that.
